Det. Supt. Ben Ewart takes over the role as N8 PRP begins new phase of operations

Det Supt Ben Ewart

The N8 Policing Research Partnership (N8 PRP) has appointed Detective Superintendent Ben Ewart as its new Policing Co-Director, from October 2024.

Ben is Head of Training and Student Officer Development at Greater Manchester Police, a role he has held since 2022. He joined policing in 1998 as an officer at the Metropolitan Police Service before moving to Manchester in 2005.

Ben has been recognised several times in his career, including receiving the Commander’s Excellence Award for Leadership in 2009.

Speaking about his new role, Ben said;

“I am pleased to be appointed as the new N8 PRP Policing Co-Director and look forward to supporting this important work and strengthening the collaboration between the N8 universities and police forces.

I am an advocate of evidence-based practice and value the contribution universities bring to policing.

In my current role as head of training with Greater Manchester Police, improving professional development and knowledge across policing remains a priority for me.

I have a history of collaborative working and developing effective partnerships, which I hope will benefit the work of N8 PRP.

My priority is to meet the N8 PRP police SPOCs over the coming weeks, along with university representatives, to understand current views and help focus research over the year ahead.”

Professor Geoff Pearson, the N8 PRP Academic Co-Director, added;

“We are delighted to welcome Ben to the N8 PRP team. His wide experience in policing and his commitment to improving evidence-based practice through research co-production and knowledge exchange will be invaluable as we move into the new phase of N8 PRP.”

Ben replaces the outgoing Policing Co-Director Chief Superintendent Ngaire Waine, Merseyside Police. Ngaire was the inaugural N8 PRP Policing Co-Director, a role she held from 2020 until her retirement from policing in September 2024.
