Dr Emma Tuschick appointed as new NRiPN Director
The N8 PRP has announced a new Director for the New Researchers in Policing Network.
The N8 Policing Research Partnership (N8 PRP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Emma Tuschick as the new Director of the New Researchers in Policing Network (NRiPN). Emma took up the role on 1 October 2026, succeeding Dr Ellen Reeves (University of Liverpool).
NRiPN supports postgraduate and early career researchers across the N8 region, helping to build connections, develop skills and strengthen collaboration between researchers and policing partners.
An ARC Research Fellow at Newcastle University, Emma completed her Master’s and PhD at Teesside University. Her research focuses on policing, criminal justice, mental health, vulnerability, suicide prevention, rehabilitation and reintegration.
Emma is already well known to the N8 PRP community. Earlier this year she led an Agile Evidence Review on suicide prevention for people arrested or under investigation for sexual offences. She is also a member of the research team delivering the N8 PRP Police Priority Grant project Preventing suicides after release from police custody, which is developing evidence to inform future policy and practice.
Alongside her research, Emma is passionate about supporting postgraduate and early career researchers and creating opportunities for collaboration across institutions and disciplines.
Commenting on her appointment, Emma said:
“I’m delighted to be taking on the role of Director of the New Researchers in Policing Network. I’ve benefited enormously from the opportunities and connections created through N8 PRP, so I’m particularly excited to have the opportunity to give something back and support other postgraduate and early career researchers.
Over the coming year, I’m looking forward to building on the fantastic work already established within NRiPN, creating opportunities for researchers to connect across institutions and disciplines, strengthening links with policing partners, and developing practical opportunities for collaboration, learning and career development. I’m really looking forward to working with the NRiPN community and hearing from members about what they would like to see from the network.”
Thanks to Dr Ellen Reeves
N8 PRP would like to thank Dr Ellen Reeves for her leadership of NRiPN since December 2024. During Ellen’s tenure, the network’s programme of support for early career researchers was extended through webinars, work-in-progress sessions, mentoring opportunities and in-person development events.
Reflecting on the handover, Ellen said:
“My time as Director has been invaluable, and I feel extremely fortunate to have had this experience. I am thrilled to hand over the reins to Dr Emma Tuschick who I know will do a fantastic job in the role.”
Read Ellen’s reflections on her time as NRiPN Director in her blog post.
The N8 PRP team looks forward to working with Emma as she leads the next chapter of the New Researchers in Policing Network.
